Eating & dining
Whether you prefer eating in or dining out, Nendaz offers a wide selection of restaurants, bars, supermarkets and speciality food stores with food to suit all tastes.
Eating in
As well as 3 supermarkets selling everything from fresh produce and meat to coffee and chocolates, there are a number of dedicated food stores in the heart of Nendaz village, including:
Butcher – quality fresh meat ideal for a summer barbeque or traditional fondue, cured meats and pates. Try the marinated lamb fillet – delicious.
Bakeries – freshly baked breads, cakes and savoury snacks. La Brioche baguettes are particularly good.
Delicatessen – fresh local fruit and vegetables, cheese, meats and speciality jams and liquors. We recommend the local apricot jam with a freshly baked croissant!
Wine, beer and spirits – supermarkets in Nendaz do not serve alcohol, however a wine store (Le Coin du Vin) is located less than a minutes walk away from the apartment. Giroud, a local wine producer, has also opened a store, bar and function venue just at the bottom of the Nendaz mountain en route into Sion. The store sells a good range of local Swiss wines and a selection from other European countries.
Migros supermarket and the delicatessen (including bakery) are right below Lake Placid. The butchers is just a few minutes walk away.
Dining out
Nendaz has an excellent selection of good quality restaurants and bars serving traditional Swiss dishes to Italian, Mexican and French cuisine.
The tourist office website provides full details of all restaurants in Nendaz and the surrounding area (see here for details) but these are some of our favourites:
La Cabane – delicious speciality food from the Valais region. Always busy, particularly on the weekends, so we’d recommend booking a table. If you can make it to dessert, the chocolate mousse is fantastic! The fendant wine from the Riddes region is also very good.
Cactus Cantina – for a lively evening and world cuisine, look no further than Cactus. Mexican food, beer and in high ski season an outside bar serving vin chaud, means this is a good après ski venue. You can’t beat a plate of nachos!
Osteria – a family run Italian with a traditional pizza oven in the centre of the restaurant! Tasty antipasti, main course dishes and a good selection of red and white wines.
Le Mont Rouge – for a special occasion or holiday celebration, this restaurant is a must. Mont Rouge offers exquisite gastronomic and regional speciality dishes, beautifully served with all the trimmings you’d expect from a top quality restaurant. We cannot recommend this enough!
